About Deanes

Who are Deanes and what do you do?

Deanes is a proudly independent, family-run fitted furniture company based in Fareham, Hampshire. We've been designing, manufacturing, and installing truly bespoke storage solutions for over 25 years. Our expertise spans fitted wardrobes, sliding doors, walk-in wardrobes, home offices, dressing rooms, and made-to-measure living room furniture. Every project we undertake is tailored to each client’s needs—no standard sizes, no compromises. From the first consultation to the final fit, you’ll deal with real people who care about delivering an exceptional experience and a flawless finish.

What makes Deanes different from other fitted furniture companies?

At Deanes, everything we create is designed from scratch, built by hand, and installed with care. We don’t use flat-pack kits or modular sizes that are simply “made to fit”—our furniture is genuinely bespoke, crafted to maximise every millimetre of your space. Unlike national brands, we won’t lure you in with inflated prices and fake discounts. Instead, we offer honest, transparent pricing and a personal service built on trust, consistency, and pride in our work. From design through to installation, your experience is seamless, thoughtful, and centred around you. Discover the Deanes Experience.

Where is Deanes located?

Our showroom and workshop are all located in Fareham, Hampshire—just a short drive from the M27. This central location allows us to serve customers throughout Hampshire, including Portsmouth, Southampton, Winchester, Eastleigh, and beyond. We design and manufacture everything on-site, meaning we can closely monitor quality and deliver on time. Our showroom is open to the public most days and showcases a wide range of designs, finishes, mechanisms, and storage solutions, making it the perfect place to start planning your project.

Do Deanes manage the full project in-house?

Yes—everything from your first enquiry to the final installation is managed by the Deanes team. We never outsource or subcontract work. Your designer, production team, and installers are all part of our close-knit business, meaning communication is clear and consistent throughout. Because we manufacture all our furniture in our own workshop, we can maintain strict quality control and offer shorter lead times. It also means you can trust that the people working on your project genuinely care about the outcome—there’s no hand-off or blame-passing between departments.

How long has Deanes been designing fitted furniture?

We’ve been creating bespoke fitted furniture since 1999. Over that time, we’ve completed thousands of projects for families, couples, and professionals across Hampshire, West Sussex, and some of Berkshire and Dorset. While trends in colours and finishes have changed, our values, craftsmanship, honesty, and attention to detail have remained constant. Our long-standing reputation and high level of repeat business are a testament to the trust our clients place in us. Many of our customers return years later when moving home or renovating another room.

Are Deanes an independent company?

Yes, Deanes is entirely independent and owner-operated by Dan Swatton. We're not a franchise, a chain, or owned by an investment firm. This independence gives us complete control over quality, service, and pricing. It also means we’re free to put clients first, with no high sales targets. As a family-run business, we’re proud of our local roots and deeply invested in our reputation. We believe that delivering a great product and standing behind it for years to come is far more important than cutting corners or chasing short-term profits.

The Deanes Design Process

How do I book a design consultation with Deanes?

Booking a consultation with Deanes is easy and flexible. You can use our website to request a design visit, call us directly on 01329 822446, or visit our Fareham showroom to speak with a member of the team. Once booked, we’ll confirm the appointment and send you a reminder. Your consultation is completely free of charge and comes with no obligation to proceed. It’s an opportunity for us to understand your space, needs, and vision—and for you to ask questions and explore ideas with one of our experienced designers.

How long does a typical Deanes consultation take?

Most home consultations last roughly 60 minutes. This gives us enough time to assess your space, take measurements, discuss what you’re looking for, and show you a selection of finishes and design ideas. Larger or more complex projects (like dressing rooms or multi-room installations) may take a little longer. We’ll never rush you. The aim is to leave you feeling confident, inspired, and clear on the next steps, whether or not you choose to go ahead at that stage.

Do I need to prepare anything before my Deanes consultation?

Not at all, our designers will take care of the measuring and layout planning. That said, if you have any inspiration photos, Pinterest boards, or a list of must-haves, we’d love to see them. We also recommend clearing the space where possible so we can easily assess corners, walls, and ceilings. Don’t worry if you’re unsure of what you want, our team are great at asking the right questions to help shape your ideas into a practical, beautiful design.

Can I visit the Deanes showroom before my home appointment?

Yes, you’re very welcome to visit our Fareham showroom at any point during your journey. Many of our customers find it helpful to pop in before or after their design visit to get a better feel for colours, finishes, and hardware. The showroom features fully built displays, sample interiors, handle options, and sliding door examples. It’s a relaxed, no-pressure environment where you can ask questions, browse ideas, and take your time. We're open Monday to Saturday—check our website for opening hours or give us a call to plan your visit.

Will the Deanes designer measure the space during the visit?

Yes. Our designers will take precise measurements of your space during the home consultation. This helps ensure your fitted furniture is designed to the millimetre, eliminating wasted space and awkward gaps. We consider every angle, slope, and surface so the final result looks like it belongs in your home, because it does.

What if I don’t know what I want yet?

That’s completely fine. Many of our clients come to us with a blank slate. Our designers are trained to ask the right questions, understand how you use the space, and suggest practical, stylish solutions that suit your lifestyle. Whether you prefer traditional or contemporary finishes, sliding or hinged doors, or clever hidden storage, we’ll help you explore all the options.

Can Deanes do a design without visiting my home?

Where possible, we recommend a home visit for accuracy and to get the best design outcome. However, if you're unable to meet in person, we can offer an email exchange or virtual consultation using plans, photographs, and video calls. This is ideal for early-stage planning or if you live outside our immediate service area.

Is there any cost for the Deanes design service?

No. Our home design service is completely free within our service area, and there is no obligation to go ahead. We believe in creating the right design first and foremost, and only then offering a quote. It’s all part of our customer-first approach. If your location is outside of our service area, we may request a refundable fee to attend.

Will Deanes provide a 3D drawing or visual of the design?

Yes. Once we’ve finalised your design, we provide a 3D CAD visual so you can see exactly how your furniture will look in your space. This helps you feel confident in your choices and allows for any adjustments before manufacturing begins.

How many changes can I make to the design?

As many as you need. We want you to be completely happy before anything is built. Whether it's adjusting the layout, changing colours, or switching from hinged to sliding doors, your designer will work with you until the design is right.

Deanes Pricing & Finance

Is there a minimum spend with Deanes?

There is no set minimum, but most fitted furniture projects start from around £1,500. This depends on the design complexity, materials chosen, and size of the room. We aim to offer solutions for a range of budgets without compromising on quality.

How does Deanes pricing compare to Sharps or Hammonds?

We offer honest pricing without gimmicks. While our quotes may not always appear cheaper at first glance, they include higher quality materials, a fully bespoke service, and a 12-year warranty. Unlike national brands, we don't inflate prices just to discount them later.

Does Deanes offer any seasonal sales or discounts?

We don’t run seasonal promotions or sales. Instead, we price fairly all year round. Our clients appreciate knowing they’re getting our best price the first time, not being pressured into a quick decision to “get the deal.”

What exactly is included in a Deanes quote?

Your quote includes everything: the design consultation, site survey, custom manufacture, delivery, installation, VAT, and your 12-year warranty. If any additional services (like removal of old furniture or electrical work) are required, we’ll include that too, so there are no hidden extras.

Are there any extra costs I should know about?

No hidden surprises. Your designer will explain the full cost breakdown and any optional extras during your consultation. We pride ourselves on being transparent about pricing.

What’s Deanes' payment structure?

Our standard payment terms are: 50% deposit to confirm your order, 45% when your furniture is ready to install, and the final 5% paid once complete. This structure gives you confidence throughout the process.

Does Deanes offer finance options?

Yes—we offer interest-free finance over 12 or 24 months, as well as Buy Now Pay Later options. Finance is provided through Novuna (formerly Hitachi Capital) and is available with borrowing of £3,000 to £10,000.

Is it easy to apply for Deanes finance?

Yes. Your designer can take you through the quick application process during your consultation. You’ll usually receive an instant decision, and it won’t affect your credit score just to check eligibility.

Who provides Deanes finance?

We work with Novuna Personal Finance, a leading UK-based finance provider regulated by the FCA. They offer reliable and secure credit facilities to help spread the cost of your project.

Can I pay for my Deanes furniture by card?

Yes. We accept most major debit and credit cards. Bank transfers are also welcome.

Will Deanes match a cheaper quote from another company?

We offer a like-for-like price match guarantee if the quote is genuinely the same. Our clients often find that while we may not always be the cheapest upfront, the quality, service, and long-term value we deliver is significantly better.

Installation with Deanes

How long will my Deanes installation take?

Most installations take between 1 and 3 days, depending on the complexity and size of the furniture. Your designer will give you a clear timeline, and our team will keep you informed every step of the way.

Who will carry out the installation?

All installations are carried out by our experienced in-house team. We don’t use subcontractors. That means the same care and attention that goes into your design and build is carried through to the final fit.

Can Deanes remove my old furniture?

Yes. If you need us to dismantle and remove existing wardrobes or storage, just let us know during the design visit. We’ll include this service in your quote so everything is taken care of for you.

Do I need to empty the room before installation?

Yes. We ask that your room be cleared of furniture and personal belongings before our team arrives. This helps our installers work efficiently and safely, and ensures your furniture is fitted to perfection without any obstacles. If you need help moving items or dismantling old furniture, let us know in advance and we can include that in your quote.

Will the installers protect my flooring and walls?

Absolutely. Our fitting team use protective coverings to shield your flooring and walls during installation. We work carefully and respectfully in your home, keeping disruption to a minimum and leaving everything clean and tidy at the end.

Can Deanes install on weekends or evenings?

Our standard installation hours are Monday to Friday, during working hours. We don’t typically offer evening or weekend installs, but if you have specific timing needs, let us know, as we’ll always try to accommodate where possible.

What if I have plug sockets or radiators in the way?

Our designers take these into account during your consultation and will either work around them or advise you if relocation is necessary. We can also recommend trusted tradespeople if any electrical or plumbing adjustments are needed before your installation.

Will Deanes need to turn off my electricity during installation?

Generally No. Only if your design includes mains lighting or internal electrical components. In those cases, an electrician may briefly isolate circuits for safety while fitting. We’ll let you know beforehand and keep any disruption minimal.

Do I need to be present during the entire install?

Not necessarily. We do ask that someone be home at the beginning to confirm access and at the end for a walkthrough. Otherwise, you're welcome to leave us to it. We’ll treat your home with respect and update you along the way.

Deanes Warranty & Aftercare

What does the Deanes 12-year warranty cover?

Our industry-leading 12-year warranty covers all aspects of workmanship and hardware, including door hinges, runners, and drawer mechanisms. Vinyl-wrapped doors are covered under the manufacturer’s warranty, which is commonly 5 years. If something breaks or goes wrong due to a fault with the product or fitting, we’ll put it right quickly and without fuss.

What if I need something adjusted in the future?

Just give us a call. Whether it’s a door realignment, a drawer not running smoothly, or a small tweak, our aftercare team will schedule a visit, free of charge, if you're still within warranty.

Can I add to or modify my furniture later on?

Yes, many of our clients come back to extend or adapt their fitted furniture as their needs change. Because we keep all designs and specs on file, we can often create new pieces to match seamlessly.

What should I do if something breaks or doesn’t function properly?

Contact us as soon as you notice an issue. If it's within the warranty period, we’ll schedule a repair. Even if it’s outside warranty, we’ll offer a fair price to carry out the fix or replacement with original-quality parts.

How do I care for my fitted furniture from Deanes?

Our furniture is made using durable, low-maintenance materials. Wipe surfaces regularly with a soft damp cloth and avoid harsh or abrasive cleaners. Your installer will give you care tips specific to your finish.

Is the warranty still valid if I redecorate around the furniture?

Yes. Redecorating walls or flooring won’t void your Deanes warranty, provided the fitted furniture itself isn’t modified or damaged in the process.

Can the Deanes warranty be transferred if I sell my home?

Our warranty is non-transferable and applies only to the original purchaser at the original installation address. However, the quality and longevity of our furniture often add value for new homeowners.

Will Deanes still have my records if I need something in a few years?

Yes, we keep records of your original designs, specifications, and order details. If you want to add to or refresh your furniture later, we can often work from the original brief.

Timelines & Project Planning

How long does it take from design to installation?

Typically, the full process takes around 8 weeks from design sign-off to installation day. This allows time for the design revisions, manufacturing of your bespoke furniture in our workshop, and fitting into our installation schedule. For larger projects, lead times may vary, but we’ll always give you a clear timeline upfront.

Can Deanes fast-track a project if I’m on a tight deadline?

We’ll always do our best to accommodate urgent timelines. If you have a specific date in mind, like a move-in deadline or event, we recommend letting us know as early as possible so we can advise on feasibility and prioritise your project if possible.

How soon can I get a design visit?

We can typically schedule your free home design consultation within 7–10 days of your enquiry, depending on your availability and our designer’s calendar. During busier seasons, it might be a little longer, but we’ll always try to find a time that suits you.

How far in advance should I book my installation?

We suggest booking 8 weeks in advance for a smooth process. If you know when you’d like your project installed—even if you’re still planning—it’s worth getting in touch so we can factor your schedule into our timeline.

What happens after I accept the quote?

Once you approve the design and make the initial deposit, we’ll produce detailed technical drawings for you to sign off on before being manufactured. Our workshop team will begin building your furniture, and we’ll stay in touch to confirm your installation date and any preparations needed before then.

Can I delay my installation once I’ve placed an order?

Yes. If your circumstances change or you need to postpone your fitting, just let us know as soon as possible. We’re happy to hold your completed furniture in our workshop until a new date is agreed.

Will I be kept updated throughout the process?

Absolutely. We’ll confirm key milestones—like when production starts, when your furniture is ready, and when installation is scheduled. If anything changes, we’ll let you know right away.

Can Deanes hold onto my order until I’m ready?

Yes—we can store your completed order securely in our workshop until your installation date, especially if your home project or renovation timeline runs over. Just give us reasonable notice to rearrange the fitting.

What if my building works are delayed?

We understand this happens! If your project is part of a wider renovation or extension and timings slip, we’ll work with you to reschedule your installation to a time that works.

How do I get support if I have a question during my project?

Our office team are available Monday to Friday to support you throughout your project. You can call, email, or visit the showroom. If your designer is unavailable, someone else will always be happy to help.

Competitor Comparison, Materials & Sustainability

How does Deanes compare to Hammonds and Sharps?

Unlike Hammonds and Sharps, who use modular units and often rely on filler panels, everything we build is made to measure. Our furniture fits perfectly into your space with no compromises. We also offer a 12-year no-quibble warranty and a more personal service from start to finish.

Do Deanes use standard modules or bespoke cabinetry?

We only create truly bespoke cabinetry. Nothing is pre-sized or adapted to fit. Every wardrobe, shelf, and drawer is built to your measurements in our Fareham workshop.

What’s the difference between Deanes’ sliding doors and other brands?

Our sliding doors are made with premium aluminium or steel tracks and soft-close mechanisms. They're smooth, quiet, and built to last. Plus, they're available in a wide range of finishes, including glass, mirror, woodgrain, and matt or gloss options.

Do Deanes use better materials than national brands?

Yes. We source high-quality board materials, edge banding, and hardware that’s made to last—and it shows. We don’t cut corners or use lower-cost chipboard internals hidden behind attractive fascias.

Will Deanes furniture last longer than off-the-shelf wardrobes?

Yes. Our furniture is built using solid materials and installed professionally to ensure long-lasting performance. We’ve had clients return 10+ years later with wardrobes still going strong.

86. Do Deanes offer better aftercare than competitors?

Yes. Our 12-year warranty, commitment to quality, and local service mean we’re here if anything ever needs adjusting or repairing. We don’t disappear after installation—your satisfaction matters to us long-term.

Will I get a higher quality of service from a local company like Deanes?

Yes. We take time to understand your needs and work closely with you from start to finish. You’ll have a named designer and a team that knows your project inside out—no call centres or generic service.

Do Deanes use solid backs and sides in their wardrobes?

Yes. We have two construction options whether it be framed or carcassed. Our wardrobes can come with solid, full-depth backs, sides, and top panels for a robust structure and high-quality finish, unlike some brands that leave gaps or use your wall as the back panel.

Will I get more choice with Deanes than with larger chains?

Yes. We offer a wide range of finishes - 107 in fact, and internal layouts that go far beyond what most national brands can provide. If you’ve seen a design elsewhere, we can usually create something even better.

How do Deanes prices compare over the long term?

While our initial quote might be higher than some “sale prices” you see advertised, our furniture lasts longer, is built better, and doesn’t need replacing or repairing in a few years. That’s real value.

Are Deanes materials sustainably sourced?

All materials are FSC registered. We work with responsible UK suppliers and prioritise materials from sustainable forests and eco-certified sources. We’re also minimising waste in production and packaging wherever possible.

Where are Deanes products made?

All our furniture is made in-house at our workshop in Fareham, Hampshire. That gives us full control over the design, quality, and timeline—no outsourcing or imports.

What kind of finishes can I choose from?

We offer a wide selection of finishes, including matt, gloss, woodgrain, metallics, soft-touch laminates, and coloured glass. Whether you want modern, traditional, or a mix, we’ll find a look that fits your style.

Are the materials used by Deanes durable and easy to maintain?

Yes. We use high-quality, moisture-resistant materials that are scratch-resistant, wipeable, and built for everyday life. Perfect for busy homes, kids’ rooms, and dressing spaces alike.

Are the doors scratch-resistant or wipe-clean?

Yes. Most of our door ranges are designed to be easy-care and resilient to scuffs or marks. We’ll recommend the best finishes for your lifestyle during your consultation.

Do Deanes offer environmentally friendly options?

Yes. We’re continuously improving our range of low-VOC, recyclable, and sustainably sourced materials. If environmental impact is a priority for you, let us know and we’ll tailor options accordingly.

What do you do with off-cuts or waste materials?

We reuse off-cuts wherever possible for samples or internal structures. Anything we can’t reuse is recycled through our waste contractor, and we continue to look for ways to reduce waste.

Do Deanes use formaldehyde-free or low-VOC boards?

We prioritise low-VOC materials and source from suppliers who comply with UK/EU environmental and safety standards. We’re happy to discuss these details during your design appointment.

How do I know Deanes furniture is made to last?

We back our work with a 12-year guarantee, but many of our installations last far longer. We use time-tested construction methods, premium materials, and never compromise on fit or finish.

Does Deanes recycle my old furniture or packaging?

No. We’ll take away your old furniture and recycle it responsibly. All packaging from your new furniture is removed and disposed of in an environmentally responsible way.
